FIRST LEGO League (FLL) - Kindergarten

Who: Kindergarten
What: During the 8-week Spring Session of FLL Discover, current Kindergarteners will explore different aspects of STEM through play, utilizing Duplo Blocks and engaging in engineering experiments. You do not need to have participated in the fall to participate in the spring session.

FIRST LEGO League (FLL) - First Grade
Who: 1st Grade
What: During the 8-week Spring Session of FLL, current 1st Graders will be introduced to the next level of FLL, Explore. Say goodbye to the Duplo Blocks, because now we're using the real deal! Your child will be introduced to the concept and practice of coding, as they learn to use their new skills to make their Lego creations move! You do not need to have participated in the fall to participate in the spring session.

Who: 2nd Grade

What: During the 8-week Spring Session of FLL, current 3rd graders will be introduced to the next level FLL, Challenge. Having learned some engineering and coding, we'll be putting those skills to the test with bigger and more elaborate creations! You do not need to have participated in the fall to participate in the spring session.

When: April 1st – May 26th (once a week, Tues thru Fri. – (You will be assigned a day depending on the form you filled out)

FIRST LEGO League (FLL) - Fourth – Sixth Grade
Who: 4th – 6th Grade
What: During the 8-week Spring Session of FLL, 4th through 6th graders will work on improving their understanding of coding and the engineering design process with Legos! You do not need to have participated in the fall to participate in the spring session.

Who: Students who are interested in learning about the team game of basketball and competing against other schools. There will be middle school tryouts for players in 7th and 8th grade in order to be placed on a team. If you do not try out for 7th/8th grade, you will not be placed.

Boys Varsity/Junior Varsity Basketball (7th-12th

Who: All 7th-12th grade boys are eligible to try out for the varsity and JV teams. 7th-9th graders must first attend the 7th-9th grade tryouts Nov 14th-16th and be invited to V/JV tryouts. Participation in the Varsity/Junior Varsity programs is increasingly competitive and placement is not guaranteed.

What: This is a competitive level of basketball with a full 26-game schedule and practices Monday-Saturday. We expect players will maintain eligibility and our program goal is a 3.5 team GPA.

Who: JCL is a National organization for the appreciation of the classics, including Greek and Roman culture, language, and mythology.  NJCL also has a spirit of service.  Students in ERA's JCL will engage in classical activities, social excursions, and service projects.

Dance Team (7th-12th)

Who: The ERA Dance Team is a creative space where students grades 7-12 can collaborate and perform dance at various events. The season is from November through February, and choreography is taught in the style of jazz. All are welcome to tryout!

Creative Cinematics (7th-12th) 

Who: Want to learn about Photography and Video Production? Want to find out about story-telling in the media age?  

What: Creative Cinematics is a video production and photography program that provides a positive activity. To inspire, unlock, and direct creativity in the form of video and photography. Students will go through the process of pre-production to post-production, creating a finished product to show to their peers and family. We will help with yearbook and social media content also.  

Spring 2024 we will shooting a short film that students will create and premiere on the last week of school to everyone.

Who: Everyone interested in hands-on building. Precursor to Robotics. 

What: In Explore, teams of students focus on the fundamentals of engineering as they explore real-world problems, learn to design, and code and create unique solutions made with LEGO bricks and powered by LEGO Education WeDo 2.0. Guided by adult coaches, teams work with LEGO elements to build a motorized model and create a Show Me poster related to their research of a yearly theme.  FLL Explore captures the interest of our youngest learners!

Challenge – First Lego League (4th- 6th) 

Who: Everyone interested in hands-on building. Precursor to Robotics. 

What: Teams collaborate to build and program an autonomous robot to score points on a thematic playing surface (the Robot Game) and create an innovative solution to a problem correlating to the yearly theme (the Innovation Project), all guided by the FIRST Core Values. Friendly competition is at the heart of Challenge, as teams engage in research, problem-solving, coding and engineering – building and programming a LEGO robot that navigates the missions of a robot game. The theme of The Challenge changes every year and is based on a real-world scientific topic. Past challenges have included topics such as space, nanotechnology, biomedical, climate change, recycling, and transportation.

Middle School Robotics- FTC (6th- 8th) 

Who: Everyone interested in hands-on building robotics. This program helps to build math, science and engineering skills.  

What: This team-based, hands-on, competitive robotics program provides challenging and exciting learning opportunities for young people. It develops teamwork and leadership skills and promotes excitement in science and technology. Teams of up to eight students collaborate to build and program a robot that competes on a 12’ by 12’ field. Each year the challenge is designed to challenge students to think critically and expand their knowledge of the engineering process.

High School Robotics- FRC (9th-12th) 

Who: Everyone interested in hands-on building robotics and competing inter-scholastically. 

What: The FRC (FIRST ROBOTICS COMPEITITON) is a non-profit organization that gathers high school robotics teams from around the world to come together and show off their skills in a competition format. 
Students will take a challenge offered by the FRC and develop a specially designed robot to complete the challenge at the highest level. Along the way students will be learning how to code, build, use tools, use CAD (Computer aided design), wire circuits, and build life skills such as communication, compromise, and teamwork.

Project material costs are included in the fee.

Summer Robotics - 2 Sessions

Who: Kids grades 6-8 with an interest in robotics, from Eagle Ridge Academy or outside of the school!

What: This is a hands-on summer program designed by current Robotics students to help introduce more students to the world of robotics and improve the knowledge of those who already know some stuff! This course will have students building DJI robot kits, learning what the parts do, how they work together, and coding the robot to do many different functions. The week will end with an exciting competition where all students will compete and have fun!

Where: ERA Robotics room [course may move based on changes happening in the room for next year. Updates will be announced if the location changes]

Who: Age appropriate strength programming for multiple sports. Focus is on body weight exercise, introduction to proper form and injury prevention. Expectation is you will attend all workouts. Only 25 slots per session.
